INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP OF Nihon Buyo 2011 As the workshop proceeds in English, English ability is required.
In order to deepen the understanding of Japanese traditional theatre, ITI Japanese Centre has held annual workshops of Noh, Kyogen, Kabuki, Nihon Buyo (dance of Kabuki), Japanese Folk Dance and Gagaku since 1988. In 2011, ITI Japanese Centre will hold the fifth edition of Nihon Buyo Workshop under the auspice of the Agency for Cultural Affairs. The aim of this workshop is to offer participants an overview of Japanese culture through the physical art-form of Nihon Buyo, which shares common ground with many other traditional Japanese art-forms. This is a unique opportunity to discover the Japanese use of sound, rhythm, musical instruments, scenery, space and sense of Ma (pause), practicing several popular pieces such as "Kiku zukushi", "Ame no Goro" and "Matsu no Midori". Participants will study under the direction of famous Nihon Buyo masters from Hanayagi School, Fujikage School and so on.
